H&M, as a brand, truly advocates for the LGBTQ+ community year-round, and I’ve been lucky enough to partner with them through many projects that give back to the community. A standout group of projects involved me photographing young queer youth of color at back-to-school events where they are given a shopping spree, have a chance to get advice from queer mentors, have their portraits taken by yours truly, and just meet like-minded folks in the community. Hosted by queer trailblazers like Dominique Jackson (FX’s Pose) and Elle Moxley (founder of The Marsha P. Johnson Institute and cofounder of Black Lives Matter), we spent the days celebrating the uniqueness of the individuals that step in front of my lens. The images were featured on Times Square billboards, proving that these individuals truly are larger than life and deserve to be celebrated. Below, you’ll see the images shining over Times Square, as well as my portrait of Dominique Jackson, and finally, my day spent photographing H&M’s presence at the NYC Pride Parade with their lovely group.
